April 11, 2008
Hey gang! Welcome back at another dose of my life. Still fighting the cold here so I stayed curled up in bed until early afternoon. Still have the gurgling in the stomach, the sinuses and bad headache but the fever has finally subsided. I did check email and then mainly crashed with the pets on the couch for a couple of hours.

I was supposed to be working at the Lutheran Social Services food bank today. But because of this cold, I didn't feel it was fair to the clients for me to be around the food they are taking home or spreading my germs on them. I know it personally irritates the hell out of me when someone sicks comes around people they know are HIV+ or have AIDS. It's not like they don't know how vulnerable people with damaged immune systems are. So when I spoke with Heather yesterday, I told her and hating letting her down but I'm sure she understands. She works so hard to keep the food bank going not to mention everything she does for the men's support group and her clients constantly.

I did attend the Rose women's support group meeting this evening. Alice came and picked me up at the house. We had a great talk on the way to the meeting. I gave her a copy of Aretha Franklin's single that Ms. Franklin recorded for Divided We Fail and AARP. A friend of mine, Zane Urbanski from Comm Care Pharmacies, was also there and had provided dinner and dessert for everyone. Zane and I are also on the World AIDS Week Committee together. The cheese ravioli was fantastic with very tasty cheese and marinara sauce. The ravioli was served with a great salad and dressings, rolls and beautiful decorated colorful cup cakes with cream cheese icing to finish off the dinner. Zane gave a great presentation while doing a great job of answering all the questions. He also brought several goodies from the pharmacy for everyone including calendars, pens and magnets.

I told the women about their group having been voted Dab the AIDS Bear Project's Angel for April 2008. We discussed politics and politicians among several other issues. They had several excellent questions. We also participated in a few of the group's routine practices and procedures. It was great seeing my friend Peaches that I've talked about several times in my blogs. She looks great and was in great spirits. We talked about the possibility of her having a kidney and pancreas transplant since she's diabetic besides being HIV positive. Peaches said she'd pray and think about it. She's a wonderful loving woman with a great voice and heart just lousy kidneys. I was also approached by a member who is also a friend that is struggling with her drug addiction. Luckily, she seems to be back working her program and out of danger. She will have to wait until she gets her next lab results to see if it damaged her immune system or not. Her relapse was only for a few months so she's hoping the news will not be too bad. Plus as I pointed out to her, she's made the right decision to be honest and deal with the problem. Not do the drugs and try to escape ending up with only making the problem worse.

I rode home with Torrencia who is one of the leaders of the Rose group. She has agreed to Chair the Teddy Bear Touchdown for Jacksonville along with Alice Heard since I'm pulled in so many directions for the rest of this year. We're going to meet in the next couple of weeks and give them the details, contacts, etc. and also email them to her. Torrencia and Alice will have to meet with Shand's and Rainbow Clinic to get their policy and procedures for our type of event for the children. They will do such a great job and I'm really looking forward to seeing how it turns out this year. There are so many possibilities and it'll be interesting to see which avenue they decide to pursue. She and I also talked about some personal stuff and had a great laugh. We get along so great and I'm so glad Torrencia's on our board of directors.

Then before I could blink it was time for American Idol. It was elimination night and they also had a few stars including Jordan Sparks appear which made for a great show. Jordan received awards for having downloads over one million on ITunes for Tattoo and No Air and her cd has sold over a half million copies. Michael Johns ended up being voted off tonight in a very dramatic finish. I don't think anyone was expecting him to be voted off tonight but he's very talented and should have a great career if he pursues it.

Time for me to hit the hay. I'm beat. It's been a long day still dealing with this cold and my right arm. Hope you had a great day also! Have you done something great for yourself this week yet?

Wishing you health, hope and happiness.

Big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
