Miami AIDS Walk

Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Sunday and it is also the day for the Miami AIDS Walk. So Dab the AIDS Bear and I are on the run again very early this morning since we have to be in Miami by 8am. So stay tuned for a slide show and pictures featuring the event in a few days.

Yesterday, we were at the Women In Network's fund raiser for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation at the Boca Greens Country Club. They did such a fabulous job organizing the golf tournament, dinner and dance. Everything was absolutely perfect.

The day started off at 9am when we set up our table with the bears, pins and literature. Then we started meeting the most fantastic group of women you could every imagine. They were so wonderful to Dab the AIDS Bear and myself.

Almost everyone posed for pictures with Dab the AIDS Bear in support of people living with HIV and AIDS. Then it was time for the start of the golf tournament.

We ended up having lunch with June, her Mom and her partner in the clubhouse. It was a great time to relax, get to know them better and have some great food.

Then it was time to grab a quick shower and get dressed for the dinner. Talk about some great food! There was roast beef, vegetable lasagna, chicken, potatoes, vegetables and several choices of salad. The tables were set with gorgeous purple flower arrangements. There was a great DJ for the dance music.

Then it was time for the silent auctions followed by the open bid auctions. After the auctions were over, the women surprised with with the first award they have ever given for my thirty years of public services for people with HIV and AIDS. I was so touched and surprised since I knew nothing about this part.

I almost started crying when I was presented the award. Then I spoke for about twenty minutes about 30 years of HIV, my god daughter and our Teddy Bear Touchdowns for children with HIV and AIDS. You could have heard a pin drop in the room. After I was finished the women gave me a standing ovation which touched my so deeply.

Then many of them came to our table to get a bear or pin. Some donated money without receiving anything. Many more have said they are going to volunteer and/or raise toys and teddy bears for the event.

So now I have hope we can pull off this event for all the wonderful kids at the Children's Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Ft. Lauderale.

Well I need to hit the road and get to Miami. I hope you have a great and safe Sunday.

Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.

big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
