Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Sunday and I hope you are having a safe and great weekend so far. It is another busy weekend for Dab the AIDS Bear and me.
Last night, Dab the AIDS Bear was at a fund raiser for Broward House which is an AIDS Service Organization in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The fund raiser was called Broadway Bares It. So stay tuned for a slide show featuring pictures from that event soon.
Today, I would like to share a slide show featuring pictures from an event last weekend in Colorado called ManREACH Colorado.
I hope you enjoyed the slide show. We would like to thank our Ambassador of Hope Butch McKay for all his help. We would also like to thank all the men on the retreat for showing Dab the AIDS Bear so much love and hospitality.
This particular gathering was at Cal-Wood Educational Center in Jamestown, Colorado. Colordo ManREACH holds other gatherings in different parts of the state. North Florida Manreach is held each October in Vernon Florida at Dogwood Acres.
Colorado ManReasch is a heart centered gathering of gay, bi and trans men. Each morning a traditional heart circle is held. The term "heart-centered" refers to a presence of mind that allows each of us to honor our feelings and the feelings of others. Such emotional authenticity creates a safe, nurturing environment where men can share their truths.
Within this space, each man can speak openly and honestly, be heard without judgment and enjoy the support of his community. Within this space, each man has the power to offer and receive unconditional love, wisdom, acceptance, compassion and healing. In addition to the heart circle, we offer a variety of workshops around overall health and well being of gay, bi and trans men.
Topics include HIV, substance abuse, mental health, spiritual health, homophobia and its impact on the community, LGBT history and other appropriate topics of interest to this population. Below is a list of the Core Values:
We are a grass roots and peer-based community.
We are inter-generational and cross-cultural.
We support integrating healthy transformations in ourselves, and our community.
We are open, respectful and honoring in a safe environment.
We model stewardship and mentorship.
We promote health, responsibility and ownership in a gay-affirming community.
We believe in sexuality as a healthy expression of intimacy.
We support deeper connections among men, unaltered by drugs and alcohol.
