Welcome to my Saturday. I hope you are having a great weekend.
I am still staying close to home as my doctor put me on bed rest several weeks ago. So on the home front, my life has been very low key and sedentary for the past few weeks. Gary and I have both been sick with a virus for over a week and a half now. But Gary ended up having to go into work today after being out all week. His employer has been having several equipment problems and customer service issues while he has been out so he needed to see how he could help with things. Gary ended up getting home around the time I was waking up. Lucky him. LOL. I am definitely not at my best when I first wake up and being sick doesn't help that process any. Waking up with Kitty curled around me doesn't make getting out of bed any easier. She shot me an evil look when I woke her up this morning. So I had to lay there and pet her for several minutes to make her happy. Gary ended up going to Publix to get some groceries for us while I finished waking up and feeling human again. He was a sweetie and remembered my bagels and cream cheese which I have been having big time cravings for the past few days.
Today, Gary and I were watching a show called Big Gay Sketch Show on Comcast demand channel 1. Big Gay Sketch Show was originally shown on the Logo Channel which features Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered community programming. I was impressed with how well the series was produced. Now for another sign of our worsening economy. Because of increases in fuel prices Walt Disney Company says it is raising one day ticket prices at its domestic parks immediately. Tickets for those 10 and older to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, will rise from $71 to $75, while tickets for children aged 3 to 9 will go from $60 to $63. Disneyland in Anaheim, California, one day prices will rise from $66 to $69 for those aged 10 and older, and from $56 to $59 for children aged 3 to 9. The price increase applies in varying degrees for longer stays. The park hopper option, an add-on that allows ticket-holders to move among any of Disney's parks, will cost $50, up from $45. So now it even costs more for us to go see Mickey! What will the winners of the next Super Bowl do after they win???
Gary made us a beef oriental dish for dinner. I think both of us were more tired than hungry. It was very overcast here today and with the way we have been feeling with the flu, I was amazed we didn't end up napping all day. We were watching CNN later this evening and I saw a story on the jobless rate. Unemployment rate rises as 51,000 jobs disappear in July; nearly half-million lost in '08. Stores, factories and other businesses large and small showed workers the door last month, sending unemployment to its highest rate in four years and adding to the evidence an economic recovery remains far off. Employers clamped down on hiring and cut 51,000 jobs in July, the Labor Department said Friday. The economy has shed jobs each month this year -- 463,000 in all. The unemployment rate rose to 5.7 percent, up from 5.5 percent in June. The jobs report contributed to another day of grim news for the economy. Job losses in July were the heaviest in industries hard hit by the slow housing market, the clampdown on credit and the shaky financial sector. Manufacturers cut 35,000 jobs, construction companies 22,000 and retailers 17,000. More pink slips are expected. Analysts predict a half-million more jobs could disappear over the rest of this year and say unemployment could climb to 6.5 percent by the middle of next year. With the employment situation deteriorating, there's growing worry that consumers will cut back on spending later this year, further hurting the economy. All told, there were 8.8 million people unemployed in July, up from 7.1 million last year. The jobless rate last July was a full percentage point below where it was this July. So if you have a job and especially if you are HIV+ and they help provide medical insurance make sure you hold on to the job. Better safe than sorry.
Well that's about it for me. Headed off to slumber land. Hope you're having a safe and great weekend. Wishing you health, hope and happiness.
