Summit Day 3
Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Friday and we have made it through another work week almost. It is also day 3 at the national gay men's health summit here in Fort Lauderdale.
So it is another very busy day for Dab the AIDS Bear and me. We had to be up at 5:30 am this morning so we get to the Sheraton hotel by 8am. Of course, I have to walk the dogs, shower and get ready before the half hour drive to the hotel which is right by our airport.
Yesterday was another great day at the summit. More people are showing up every day as we get closer to the weekend. If everyone finishes showing up today, we should have almost four hundred people at the event.
I had some great conversations with several people yesterday. I also ran into several old friends like Butch McKay, Joey Wynn and others who showed up on Thursday. So the day flew by even though we were there for ten hours. I must admit I was ready to get home since I was worn out and know the next three days are going to be twelve hour days due to a very few schedule of events.
Mark King asked yesterday if he could interview me about Dab the AIDS Bear. So during one of the breakout session, we found a quite spot and did a quick ten minute interview. I look forward to seeing the final product and think the world of Mark and his work for our community. I will share the link after Mark has posted the interview this coming weekend.
I ended up taking another forty pictures more or less at the event with Dab the AIDS Bear. Will be posting the slide show of the pics from the summit in the next few days. But it will probably be next Tuesday or so before I have all the pictures processed.
Of course, those of us who are activist for the HIV/AIDS community were constantly talking about the current waiting lists, the latest funding from Washington DC, how to get the additional funding we still need to end the ADAP waiting lists in our country and other topics. We are all so passionate about the issue that we could easily spend an entire weekend on that subject matter alone.
Heard from Allen who was one of Thom's best friends. He and Thom's partner, Rick, went looking at chapels for Thom's funeral yesterday. Of course Rick is taking all this so hard. After all, Thom and he were together for many years and loved each other so deeply. They are going to let me know when they decided on the place so I can send some flowers.
Well I need to get running and headed to the hotel. I hope you have a great Friday.
Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.
big bear hug,
