Dab the Breast Cancer Bear
Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Tuesday and I hope you are having a safe and great week so far. It is another busy week for Dab the AIDS Bear and me.
This past Sunday, we made the huge announcement about our latest bear - Dab the Breast Cancer Bear. The new bear has been in the works for about three months. The funds from our new Dab the Breast Cancer bear will help fund mammograms for women with HIV who do not have insurance. Women with HIV are up to 300 percent more likely to have breast cancer during their lifetime.
There is also a couple of other reasons I wanted to do a breast cancer bear. First, breast cancer runs in my family. My mom, two aunts and my cousin all had breast cancer during their lifetimes. Breast cancer ended up killing one of my aunts and my cousin. Luckily my other aunt and Mom were able to beat breast cancer.
The other reason is because a few of our female Ambassadors of Hope have struggled to beat breast cancer and two of them lost their battle. So I wanted to do something more since Ryan White funding does not cover mammograms. It is hard enough to live with HIV, take the medications and deal with stigma. So if I can help women living with HIV to detect breast cancer earlier, I hope it will make a huge difference in their lives.
We will also be posting more slide shows this week featuring pictures from the events Dab the AIDS Bear did this past weekend in Houston and Augusta, GA. So stay tuned for the new slide shows soon.
Besides that we are also going to be working with the Stigma Project on a new joint initiative to help end HIV stigma. So as you can see our plate is going to be very full this week.
Going to keep the blog for today short since we have to leave for a meeting soon. But wanted to say hello to all of you and wish you a beary great Tuesday!
Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.
big bear hug,
