Washington, DC

Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Wednesday and we have made it to the middle of another work week. I hope you are having a safe and great one so far.

Dab the AIDS Bear and I are back in Washington, DC. We are meeting with our elected officials on the Hill concerning the Emergency ADAP Funding Bill in Congress. Today we met with the staffers from Senators Nelson and LeMieux's offices. We also stopped by Senator Burr's office to say thanks for all his hard work and sponsoring the bill.

If you are not HIV positive, you might wonder why this is so important. Our country has had waiting lists for AIDS Drug Assistance Program since 2003. Several people have died while on the waiting lists. ADAP provides life saving HIV medications for financially challenged HIV positive American men and women.

I lost far too many friends when we did not have medications to keep people alive. The fact we allow men and women in our country to die just because they can not afford the thousands of dollars these medicines costs angers me and dishonors the deaths of all those friends. So we do everything in our power to advocate for more funding. In Florida, we have over 900 men and women currently on the ADAP waiting list. Across the country, we have over 2,500 men and women on the waiting lists. When you consider how much money and medications we send to other countries to help fight HIV and AIDS, it is an outrage we allow our own citizens to die. I am not saying other countries do not need help. I know they do. I am just saying we should be taking care of our own citizens first.

Later today, I will be taking pictures with Dab the AIDS Bear at several sites around the city. So stay tuned for upcoming pics and slide shows. I am also looking forward to having lunch with an old friend tomorrow who I have not seen in awhile.

Then tomorrow is going to be another busy day. Besides having lunch with my friends, I will be headed back to the Hill for more meetings. Then tomorrow evening, there is the Housewives of DC Premier Party where our project is one of the recipients of the proceeds. So it should be a great time. I know I will be dead tired by the time I fly out on Friday.

So as you can tell Dab the AIDS Bear and I will be non-stop for the next couple of days. Wish us luck because men and women with HIV and AIDS need all the help they can get in our country.

Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.

big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
