Welcome to 2014 and another year of my life as a long term survivor of HIV and AIDS.
To the loyal readers of my blog, I want to thank you for sharing your thoughts, emails and well wishes. I hope you had a safe and Happy New Year!
To my new readers, I am a long term survivor of HIV and AIDS and was one of the first Americans infected by HIV. I have been HIV+ since Valentine's Day 1982 and it has been a journey of many highs and lows.
I am very fortunate to still be alive when over 95 percent of my friends who were HIV+ in the 80s including my husband and our godchild have been gone from this life for a long time. This year I start celebrating my 31st year of living with HIV and AIDS in February.
I am a HIV/AIDS, health care and GLBT activist/advocate and have been since the early 1980s. I started Dab the AIDS Bear Project to give a voice to HIV+ people who were on the ADAP (AIDS Drug Assistance Program) Waiting Lists in 2006. No American should ever be allowed to die from HIV/AIDS only because they can't afford the life saving medications.
So my blog deals with everything going on in my life from activism, advocate, clinical trial participant, friend, husband, brother and son. I hope something inspires you, makes you laugh or teaches you something you did not know before visiting.
I know for many 2013 was a very rough year. Unfortunately, many states had ADAP waiting lists and the problem of funding is only currently be solved. So it is going to be a very busy year for Dab the AIDS Bear and me.
Drop me a line sometime and let me know what is going on in your life or news you have come across.
Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.
Big Bear Hug,
