In Memory of Michael
Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Tuesday and it was very chilly again this morning in South Florida. The day started off with lows in the lower 30s and frost on the ground. So if it is that cold here I hope you are safe and warm wherever you are living.
Luckily, the news weather forecaster is predicting warmer temperatures in the next few days. By this weekend, the weather will hopefully be back to normal for this part of the country. Normal here is in the low 70s for highs and 50s at night. Now that is the kind of weather for me.
It has been a very slow week for me. I was worn out after the trip to Jacksonville for a week. So I have been very tired and sleeping a lot. Plus it has been too cold to go outside except to take the dogs for their walks. Speaking of them, my four legged children are slowly getting used to their new location. Unfortunately, it will probably confuse them when we have to go back to Jacksonville for a week next month to close up the house there. It is a good thing animals are very adaptable.
I spent most of this afternoon answering some questions for an interview by Alina Oswald. For those of you who do not know Alina, she is a great photographer and author. Alina has done several piece on HIV and AIDS. She is also an Ambassador of Hope with Dab the AIDS Bear Project. The stories she was interviewing for were dealing with HIV/AIDS and GLBT marriage. I look forward to seeing the finished product. She also just emailed me several new pictures with her Dab the AIDS Bear which I will feature in the next few days on the blog. So stay tuned.
Now for the bad news. I found out late last night a very good friend of mine, Michael Childers, died yesterday. He was found in his shower at home. Unfortunately, it was too late to do anything to save him. Michael was not only a friend but also a very devoted volunteer at Dab the AIDS Bear Project. He had also helped with all of our Teddy Bear Touchdowns for children with HIV and AIDS. While it is always hard to learn any of my friends have passed away, Michael had fought so hard to stay alive. It really took the wind out of my sails. I will miss him so much.
So I guess what I am saying is to remind you to tell the people you care about that you love them. You never know when you might not get another chance as I have found out way too many times in my life.
So Michael, bud, I love you. I will miss you. And I want to thank you for sharing a small part of your life with me. You were such a loving, gentle spirit. May you rest in peace. Until we meet again, you will always be in my heart.
I have gotten many sweet messages from several of you concerning my recent health problems and I would like to take the time to thank you. I can not begin to tell you how much they have helped raise my spirits as much as possible just knowing people like you care that much. You know how to make this old bear feel very loved and special.
Getting ready to make some lasagna for dinner and have another quiet night at home since it will be very chilly again tonight. I hope you have a safe and great evening. Stay warm!
Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope and happiness.
big bear hug,
