ABC benches 'Ugly Betty'
Thanks for stopping by to check out another day in my life and what a busy one it has been.
I spent most of the morning trying to get in contact with Senator Bill Nelson who sits on the Senate Finance committee. The Senate Finance Committee was to convene today at 10:00 am to take action on the American Recovery and Revitalization Act. I am very concerned about strengthening the Maintenance of Effort (MOE) language contained in the bill.
Needless to say, I was not able to get the Senator himself on the telephone but I did end up speaking to his aides in Florida and Washington, DC. Several times when I called his DC office, his phone lines were overflowing so I am sure many of our AARP advocates were doing the same as I.
I also worked out again today. It was chest and tricep day. After downing my morning protein shake, I did five exercises of two sets each for chest and three exercises of two sets each for my triceps. I am slowly starting to see the beginnings of my old body coming back which is great. But being the impatient person I can be I wish the results were quicker.
But on to the topic of the day, ABC is bouncing Ugly Betty. Now there are very few television shows I enjoy watching and Ugly Betty is one of them so I am not a happy camper right now.
Things are looking pretty gloomy for Ugly Betty.
In a just announced Thursday night scheduling tweak, ABC is benching Betty beginning March 26 and replacing it with episodes of Samantha Who? and the new Megan Mullally and Cheryl Hines comedy In the Motherhood. The network's release concludes by saying, "Ugly Betty will return to Thursday nights at 8:00 pm following the run of In the Motherhood and Samantha Who?"
After crunching the numbers, that puts Betty's return (provided Sam Who/Motherhood do not tank) sometime around (gulp) June a.k.a. outside the regular season. Now, granted, Betty has not exactly been killing it in the ratings this season, but it is still one of ABC's signature shows. At least I thought it was.
"The Thursday night block is a good opportunity to launch these comedies," counters an ABC spokesperson. "That said, Betty is a solid performer and there is no question that it will definitely be back to complete its season, just without repeats."
But when will it be back? The network is not saying, and that is the part that has me worried. Do you share my concern? Or is there a silver lining here that I am just not seeing? Comment away. Inquiring minds want to know.
I hope you are having a safe and great week so far. Remember to keep your feet on the ground while reaching for the stars.
Wishing you health, hope and happiness.
Big bear hug,
