Wrong, Wrong, Wrong

How are you doing today? After a night of very little sleep, I started off my day wishing I could just roll over in bed. But I had things to do and people to see.

It has been a very busy day for me. I had to be up very early to be at Edward Waters College for their health fair. Lisa and Beverly Bolton are great about inviting our project to have HIV/AIDS information for all their college students. Unfortunately, we were unable to have the DOH HIV testing van at the school today. I did speak with roughly 80 - 90 students about HIV and safer sex. Hopefully they got the message.

Now I always share the fact I was one of the earliest HIV infections which usually gets their attention. Then I go into my talk about how important regular HIV testing is and the reasons why. I also spoke with several of the fraternities and sororities on campus about helping with our Teddy Bear Touchdown this year.

Now on to our subject for the day because it is just wrong, wrong, wrong. Did I say wrong?!

Florida HIV Clinic Owner Admits to Health Care Fraud

Orlando Pascual Jr., the owner and operator of Medcore Group LLC and M&P Group of South Florida, pleaded guilty January 7 to defrauding the Medicare program in connection with a $5.3 million HIV infusion fraud scheme, South Florida Business Journal reports.

According to the article, Pascual admitted that between August 2004 and November 2006 he plotted with others to submit about $5.3 million in fraudulent claims to Medicare. The clinics claimed to specialize in HIV treatment. However, Pascual acknowledged that clinic employees intentionally manipulated patientís blood samples so they would appear to need treatment, but they didnít.

While Pascual is already serving jail time for another Medicare fraud involving durable medical equipment, he will be sentenced in April. Seven other co-defendants are scheduled to go to trial next month.

I do not know how you feel about the fraud, but I think there should be a special place in hell for people like that. Let me know what you think.

I hope you have a safe and great weekend. Remember to take time to smell the roses.

Wishing you health, hope and happiness.

Big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
