Welcome to the "24" Premier Party

This is day 2 in Los Angeles. We are here because of a FOX "24" Heroes Premier Party. FOX network picked my story about HIV and AIDS as the winner of their "24 Heroes" contest. FOX network flew us into LA yesterday on Delta airlines.

This morning, Gary and I decided to go see the Getty Museum during our stay here in Los Angles, California. After a short cab ride from the beautiful Palomar Hotel where we are staying in Westwood, we rode the tram up to the campus.

The Getty Museum is actually a series of several buildings making up a campus. You have several different parts some museum, some administration on a small portion of the land the Getty Trust has acquired. The building are done in shades of white made of travertine or stainless steel with tons of windows for natural light.

We went on both the architectural tours and the garden tours. Our guide, Rose, was very informative and personable. She became a tour guide because she had visited and fallen in love with the property.

The gardens have a beautiful fountains that ends in a waterfall. The landscape mainly in shades of green with punches of color for accent and attention draw. After the tours, I was starting to have some problems with my legs so we had some lunch in the courtyard. Unfortunately, I was unable to continue so we decided to go back to the hotel.

We went back to Hotel Palomar and rested for a couple of hours. Then it was time for Gary and I to get ready for the Fox Premier Party for the show "24" with Kiefer Sutherland. We were invited to attend because FOX network was honoring my work with the HIV/AIDS community. There were also 23 other Americans being honored for their accomplishments hence the tie in the the "24" show.

I was lucky enough to meet Kiefer Sutherland when he was checking into the same hotel I was staying and rode up on the elevator with him. I gave him one of my Dab the AIDS Bear Project business cards and one of our HIV/AIDS awareness pins. I was surprised how friendly Mr. Southerland was and enjoyed our brief conversation.

I also got to meet the Osbournes who were at the hotel for a photo shoot. Sharon looked beautiful and was very kind when we spoke and I gave her one of the pins and business cards. I also rode with her daughter, Kelly, on the elevator. Kelly was absolutely stunning in the dress she had chosen with her alabaster skin. Jack, her brother, looked great also since losing weight in his recent television reality show.

Overall, I was very relieved to see how approachable and friendly all the celebrities were when I spoke with them.

Then it was time to get ready to leave for the "24" premier party. When we first got to the location, we had the red carpet treatment. After entering, we ended up having our picture taken with most of the cast from the "24" series, smoking cigars, dancing and eating at XIV (a.k.a. Fourteen) on Sunset Blvd. XIV was fantastic and it was a great party.

I was also very grateful for meeting Howard Gordon who is the inspiration behind "24". We believe the same that people are here to give and not take and we all should be working together to make things better. I could have spent an entire evening speaking with Mr. Gordon.

Gary and I also had the chance to spend some quality time with Kiefer Sutherland and the other actors. Mr. Sutherland paid me a compliment about my work with HIV and AIDS and I was surprised when he said he had checked out the project website after I had given him my business card in the elevator when we met.

I had been to several different premiers when I lived in West Hollywood in the 90s but this group was probably the friendliest and most hospitable of any I have attended. I know Gary had a great time because this was his first premier party.

Around midnight, we decided to head back to the hotel with our new friends from Texas, Cindi and Whitney but I will talk more about them in tomorrow's blog entry.

Headed to bed now for another busy day tomorrow trying to see a few more sites before leaving for the airport.

Hope you had as great day also.

Wishing you health, hope and happiness.

big bear hug,
