AIDS March on Washington

Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Thursday and I hope you are having a safe and great week so far. Dab the AIDS Bear and I are still on the run this week trying to do what we can about the situation in Washington, DC.

Have you heard about the AIDS March on Washington yet? No, you say. Well after the blog today you will not have any excuses since Dab the AIDS Bear Project is one of over 1,000 organizations who have signed on for the march.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and 1,006 organizations from 78 countries are pleased to announce their endorsement of the ‘Keep the Promise on HIV/AIDS’ March set to take place in Washington, DC, Sunday, July 22, 2012. The March will take place immediately preceding the opening ceremonies of the International AIDS Society’s XIX International AIDS Conference, which is being held in the United States for the first time in more than 20 years. Watch the video below to see testimonials from three global organizations that have signed on to the March: Estonian Network of People Living with HIV, Communidad Cultural de Tijuana LBGTI from Mexico and LifeLine, Durban from South Africa.

The ‘Keep the Promise on HIV/AIDS’ March - which organizers anticipate will draw thousands of participants - will serve as a worldwide call for universal access to HIV/AIDS care and treatment and more efficient use of the limited funding from sources including PEPFAR. It will also call for full financing of the Global Fund by the G20 and large nation's economies, as well as the lowering of HIV/AIDS drug prices by pharmaceutical companies to provide treatment for more patients with the same amount of money.

The March was officially announced at a press conference in Washington D.C. July 26, 2011. We are incredibly honored to announce the kick off of the 2012 ‘Keep the Promise on HIV/AIDS’ Declaration, March and Rally in Washington, DC with the endorsement and support of over 1,000 organizations from around the world,” said Terri Ford, Senior Director of Global Advocacy and Policy for AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

She added: “We warmly welcome additional global partners, non-governmental organizations, ministries of health and other government bodies and agencies to join with us in this growing coalition by endorsing the ‘Keep the Promise on HIV/AIDS’ Declaration, as well as by participating in this March and Rally next summer.”
