Happy July 4th!

Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Sunday and it is also July 4th which is Independence Day here in the United States! I hope all of you are having a safe and great July 4th weekend.

This weekend Dab the AIDS Bear and I are making several appearances around the world. We will be at London Pride, Madrid Pride and then heading off for Washington, DC.

We will be in Washington, DC next week for the ADAP Crisis Summit and then meeting with our elected officials about backing the Emergency ADAP Bill in Congress. Currently, there are twelve states with over 2,000 American men and women on ADAP waiting lists.

As a long term survivor, this angers me so much it is hard to talk about it. See I held over 10,000 friends as they died from complications due to AIDS BEFORE we had life saving HIV medications starting in 1996. They did not have a choice or opportunity of being able to live with HIV and AIDS.

The fact our country now allow our own citizens to be placed on waiting lists for life saving HIV medications makes no sense to me. After all, we give billions of dollars to other countries to help them battle HIV and AIDS. Why are we not taking care of our own?

Now I am not saying other countries do not need help with the epidemic. We do Teddy Bear Touchdowns for children with HIV and AIDS in several countries. I have seen how bad it is in Africa and other third world countries.

I am just saying we should be taking care of our own first. Our country has never done enough when it comes to awareness, education and prevention and now we are paying the price with over 1.2 million Americans living with HIV and AIDS. The least we can do is make sure they have the necessary medications to be able to survive.

Those are my thoughts. What about yours? Drop me a line and let me know.

Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.

big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
