Appropriations Alert

Stop Waiting Lists from Spreading to Your State!

We are urging you to request full funding, $1.0836 billion, for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) in the 2010 Fiscal Year appropriations mark-up.

The Presidentís request of $835 million for ADAP does not sufficiently meet the needs of United States citizens living with HIV/AIDS. The requested funding amount would provide the means for an additional 8,472 ADAP patients to receive the medical care that they desperately need.

In 2004, inadequate funding increases led to a waiting list of 68 individuals in three states. The following year, these inadequate increases compounded across the country and the waiting list spread to 11 states and had over 2,300 people on it.

ADAP currently has 100 people in four states on waiting lists, with more states to place individuals on waiting lists by the end of the year.

The 111th Congress cannot allow waiting lists to return to their previous 2005 and 2006 six levels, and must therefore FULLY FUND THE AIDS DRUG ASSISTANCE PROGRAM at $1.0836 billion in Fiscal Year 2010!

An American man or woman should never have to give up hope. The fate of so many people living with HIV/AIDS is in your hands.

Thanks for your help!

big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
