National HIV Testing Day

Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Sunday and it is also National HIV Testing Day! So I hope you are having a safe and great weekend. Remember to Get Tested - Know Your Status!

It has been a very busy weekend for Dab the AIDS Bear and me. Yesterday, Dab the AIDS Bear was at the St. Petersburg, Florida Pride parade. Then it was off to San Diego for a fund raiser. By night fall, we were in Chicago for a fund raiser. So stay tuned for pictures and slide shows from all the events.

Today, the bear and I are making appearances at the St. Louis Pride parade followed by a fund raiser in Jacksonville, Florida for their local Teddy Bear Touchdown for children with HIV and AIDS. So I am doing the blog early today and then off to the parades.

For all our HIV negative readers, please remember to get tested at least once a year for HIV even if you think you are in a monogamous relationship. So many people we counsel thought they were in monogamous relationship and not practicing safe sex only to later find out they have the HIV virus.

Where do you get tested? Almost all cities off HIV testing at their Department of Health. You can also check to see if you have a local AIDS Service Organization, college or other organization which does HIV testing. You can also ask your doctor when you go in for your yearly physical.

For our HIV positive friends, please remember you still have to use protection. Not only can you catch other sexually transmitted diseases but there is more than one strain of the HIV virus. No reason to make life even more difficult now is there? I personally have not ever met anyone I think would be worth it. But I guess it all boils down to self-esteem and loving yourself enough not to let anything endanger your life more.

So now we are off and running. Hope you have a fantastic rest of your weekend. If you are in one of the cities where we are making an appearance today, please come out to say hello and get your picture taken with Dab the AIDS Bear in support of people living with HIV and AIDS.

Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.

big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
