Judge Stops Wrongful Termination Suit
by Teacher With HIV
Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Thursday and I hope you are having a beary safe and great week so far. It is another busy week for Dab the AIDS Bear and me as Dab the AIDS Bear is doing the AIDS Life Cycle from San Francisco to Los Angeles this week.
I read some disturbing news about what has been happening to a teacher with HIV that I will blog about today.
A judge has stopped a lawsuit by a gay middle school science teacher in California against a school for workplace discrimination and wrongful termination because he has HIV.
Matthew Edmondson sued The Pegasus School in Huntington Beach in 2012. He changed his HIV medication in 2011, which caused adverse side effects and forced him to take time off ó but no more than his allotted 10 days during the 2011 to 2012 school year.
The head of school and the director, who both knew of Edmonsonís side effects, allegedly waged a discrimination campaign. Edmonson claims he was forced to sign a confidential agreement and release, which led to his leaving the school two days later.
The suit was seeking compensatory and general damages for emotional distress and pain and suffering. The judge cited the agreement as the reason for stopping the suit.
Sounds like the teacher was coerced to me. What do you think? Drop me a line and let me know your opinion.
Going to close for now. Dab the AIDS Bear still has many miles to go before resting this evening at the camp for the riders of the AIDS Life Cycle.
Hope you have a beary great and safe Thursday!
Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.
big bear hug,
