Dictionary.com and Marriage
Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Thursday and I hope you are having a safe and great week so far. It is another busy week for Dab the AIDS Bear and me so I am just trying to stay on top of things since this is one of our busiest months of the year.
Being a gay man, I have a hard time accepting the fact that others can say whether or not I should have the right to marry another man. So I found it very interesting that I recently received an email concerning this topic. I would like to share that email with you today and also a link of how you can help change things.
My twin sister Ashley and I are incredibly close -- for our entire childhood, we never spent more than four days apart. When Ashley came out as gay at 18, I was so proud of her strength. Her courage in the face of discrimination has inspired me, but itís also broken my heart a few times.
It infuriates me when states like North Carolina pass laws saying that Ashley can't get married because "marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman." Defined by whom? What does that even mean, and why should it allow anyone to deprive my sister of the right to marry the person she loves?
So, I decided. If this whole argument comes down to an intangible definition, then itís time for that definition to change.
Dictionary.com says that more than 50 million people use its site every month, and its primary definition of marriage is "the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife." That's not just personally offensive, it's also factually incorrect -- I live in New Hampshire, where it's legal for all couples to get married, no matter their gender.
That's why I started a petition on Change.org asking Dictionary.com to use the correct definition of marriage -- one that includes all couples. Will you click here to sign it?
Dictionary.com shouldn't be using a definition that is outdated and prejudicial. I know that if thousands of people sign my petition, they'll do the right thing and use a definition of marriage that is factually correct and inclusive.

Hopefully you will copy and paste the link above and join your name with Dab the AIDS Bear and me. We think all consenting adults should have the right to marry regardless of sexual orientation or identification.
Hope you have a great Thursday!
Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.
big bear hug,
