Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Sunday and the last day of Pridefest in Oakland Park. I hope you have been having a great and safe weekend.
We have been very fortunate to have some beautiful weather in the Fort Lauderdale area this weekend. With sunny to partly cloudy skies, low humidity and temperatures in the 70s during the day and 50s at night, it has been a wonderful time to be able to go outside for a little bit and get out of the house.
I had a couple of messages from Heather late this morning when I finally rolled out of bed. The group was already on the road and headed back to Jacksonville. She said they had a great time and everyone sends me their love.
Pridefest was held at Jaco Pastorius Park in Oakland Park, Florida on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 7pm. Besides the main venue, there were also sto cruises. Pridefest draws over forty thousand people each year to our area. One of the entertainers flown in this year was CeCe Penniston. I am sure you remember her song "Finally" which was a huge hit in the early 90s. Rumor has it she has a new release coming out later this year.
I ran into several friends from the time I got there. Also took a few great pics with Dab the AIDS Bear while telling people about our Teddy Bear Touchdowns for children with HIV and AIDS. I probably handed out about fifty business cards. Got to see Anthony and Mario at the Department of Health tables. Then I got to see Wesley at the Pride table as we were getting ready to leave. It has been weeks and weeks since I have ran into them so it was great to be able to say hello.
All too soon, I started getting worn out and tired so it was time to head back to the house. Really the only complaint I had was the horrible lack of parking. Ended up having to park several blocks away and walk which for some would have made it an impossible outing. There was probably sixty vendor tables from all walks of the community. They also had some live entertainment and in another spot a dj spinning some of the latest hit remixes.
When I got back to the house of course the kids were ready to go out for their walk. They were so glad to see me since I hardly ever leave the house lately except for doctor appointments, lab tests and other procedures. Then it was time for us to rest some on the couch while I got my second wind.
I also had a couple of messages. One from Butch, who runs the Positive Living Conference I talked about in my blog the past couple of days, saying he knew I had already heard about the Tshirt everyone has signed for me. He also said I have another surprise on the way which I look forward to seeing. Hopefully, I will get to see Butch this fall at the Gay Men's Health Summit here in south Florida.
The other one from Heather letting me know they made it back to Jacksonville safely. I also had an very sweet email from Gary saying how much everyone appreciates what I do for the HIV/AIDS community and how everyone was sending their love.
I have a very busy day coming up tomorrow and have to be up very early in the morning. So I am going to close for now and wish everyone a great week.
Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope and happiness.
big bear hug,
