BOLT'S 1 Year Anniversary

Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Saturday and I hope your weekend is off to safe and great start. I am writing the blog for today very early since Chipper had me up bright and early since he is not feeling very well again. My little four legged child used to sleep through the night but since his cancer is advancing, he almost never sleeps through the whole night. Being deaf and blind at age 16, he barks to get my attention when he needs loving or some other type of attention. Since he has been a loving and loyal companion since I rescued him from animal control, I jump out of bed when I hear him so I can be there and comfort him.

I am in the middle of a busy weekend which will end with my participating in the local AIDS Walk tomorrow and celebrating my birthday. Jeanne, Ryan White's mother, will be at the walk tomorrow. So I am looking forward to seeing her again and giving her another Dab the AIDS Bear.

Last night, Dab the AIDS Bear and I attended the one year anniversary party for BOLT. BOLT is Bringing Our Lives Together which is a social organization for HIV+ men in Fort Lauderdale, Florida which was started by a friend of mine named Anthony Johnson. They meet the last Friday of each month at Fusion in Wilton Manors. The party this evening started around 6pm and was still going strong when I left around 8:45pm. It was great getting to see Anthony, Mario and several other new friends I have made here in Fort Lauderdale.

There was a great turnout of roughly thirty people. Anthony did a great job of hosting a wonderful party with a ton of delicious food and deserts. Everyone had a great time and we had some wonderful conversations on how to better get the word out about HIV/AIDS prevention while helping those already infected. The highlight of the evening was when Anthony was presented with his award and gift for his great service to the local HIV and AIDS community. Besides starting BOLT, Anthony also volunteers endlessly for several HIV/AIDS organizations and the Department of Health in Broward County. So I wish him continued success and am honored to call him a new friend.

BOLT's vision statement to help build a community that promotes unity between all groups of people. To break down the walls that divide us; A community that works together and supports one another, no matter their differences. To help build a community that stands proud. After returning home, it was time to take the kids for their evening walk before passing out in bed. I still do not have much energy for long periods of time so it was all I could do to keep my eyes open after getting back to the house.

Do not have a lot on the schedule today since I want to rest up and conserve my energy for the long day tomorrow at the walk. Mainly plan on spending time with my four legged children and enjoying life. I have to be up at 5:30am in the morning to get down to the walk by 7:30.

I hope you have a fantastic day and remember to take time to smell the roses. Life is not a dress rehearsal so take time to do something special just for you.

Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.

big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
