Shawn's POZ Blog Birthday Wishes

Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Monday and a cloudy, dreary and rainy day here in south Florida. I hope your week is off to a safe and great start.

The city directly next to mine, Oakland Park, had a tornado this morning but luckily it did not damage my neighborhood. The tornado down trees and power lines but luckily there are not any reports yet of injuries or death. Just another reminder to count our blessings and be grateful for each day we are given.

In the past couple of blog entries, I have been thanking everyone for all the happy birthday wishes I have been receiving for the past few days and I also spoke about doing the Florida AIDS Walk on my birthday yesterday and getting to spend some time with Jeanne (Ryan White's mother) which was the icing on the cake.

I woke up this morning and had a message from a friend, Shawn Decker. Shawn is a great fellow blogger and activist. He and his other half Gween travel the country talking at conferences, events, schools and colleges. They do a great job of HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention while helping those already infected. They are a sero-discordant couple which simple put means Shawn is positive while Gwenn is HIV negative. Shawn and I have been friends online for awhile and we finally got to meet in person this past year. They spoke at our World AIDS Day banquet in Jacksonville this past December and did a fantastic job. So if you ever need some great entertaining speakers for your event, I recommend them highly.

Shawn's message turned out to be his latest blog entry at which was titled Happy Birthday, Dab which was a great surprise. (You can read Shawn's blog at: I was so touched Shawn took the time out of his busy schedule to write a blog wishing me a happy birthday.

Shawn besides being one of our Ambassadors of Hope at Dab the AIDS Bear Project also is an author and musician. You can see some of his work at My Pet Virus:

So thanks Shawn for making a friend feel special on my birthday. You're the best! Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing you and Gwenn again soon.

It is going to be a great day for staying inside, getting caught up on my work and email, spending time with the four legged children and getting some rest. I am worn out after the AIDS walk yesterday.

I hope you have a great day. And thanks again to all of you for making me feel so loved and special with all your wonderful and caring happy birthday wishes.

Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.

big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
