HIV-Positive Candidate for Student Body Wins Election
Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Tuesday and I hope you are having a beary safe and great week so far. It is another busy week for Dab the AIDS Bear and me.
This is when our year really starts to get busy with LGBT Pride events, more AIDS Walks and Rides and conferences around the world. So stay tuned for more pictures and slide shows coming up.
Well I read some good news about a student with HIV winning a student election. It is so much nicer to read good news than bad although we have to pay attention to both.
Despite controversy, students at the University of Houston Downtown have elected Kristopher Sharp as vice president of their student body.
The openly gay and HIV-positive candidate was subjected to discrimination during the campaign. A flier circulated on the college campus showed a picture of him with an X over it. Above it was a headline, “Want AIDS?” Below it was a caption saying not to support his and his running mate’s “homosexual agenda.”
On the back of the flier was a copy of a medical document containing his home address, phone number and HIV status.
I personally believe that the person or persons responsible for disclosing his HIV status should be prosecuted. But that's just the way I feel.
What about you? Drop me a line and let me know.
Hope you have a beary safe and great day!
Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.
big bear hug,
