May 17, 2008
Thanks for joining me again and welcome to the weekend. We started the day off in Jacksonville, Florida with overcast skies and temperatures in the low 60s. I ended up falling asleep early last night so I was up around 4:30am today. Although the dogs must have thought it was time for their morning to start also since they perked up once I came out of the bedroom.

After taking care of them, I worked on adding a few sub-sections to this website. There are new entries under HIV/AIDS Survival Guide dealing with traveling, disclosure and taking care of yourself if you are HIV positive. I also added a couple of new entries under HIV 101 dealing with new conversion issues. After Gary woke up and got his day started we had breakfast and then it was time to take my morning medications. I was feeling tired shortly afterwards and decided to take a nap for a few hours. I enjoyed my mid day nap until around 2pm and decided I better get up if I didn't want to sleep my day away.

After working on this website some more, Gary and I decided to start dinner early. He started the baked potatoes and the grill for me. I cooked the steaks and the English peas. We had NY strip steaks again. It was the last of the steaks I brought at Publix recently while they were on special. Today's steaks were just as good as the last and we had our usual loaded baked potatoes with cheddar cheese, sour cream and butter in them.

Afterwards we were watching CNN and the World News governing today's issues. There were updates on the earthquake in China and the cyclone damage in Myanmar. There was another 6.0 earthquake in China today making the people fear more buildings falling and rocks from the mountains and hills. The government has a real fear of failing dams due to damage from the earthquakes which could flood some cities killing hundreds of thousands of people. Myanmar officials are still not allowing all emergency relief aid into their country while many of their citizens have no clean water or food to eat. Times like this make me glad I live in the United States.

Although thinking back on our government's response to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, I can only hope they responds better and quicker to the next major catastrophe. From what I've heard from friends who have been to New Orleans since the hurricane, the city still looks like a bomb went off. Hard for me to picture since I remember it as such an alive city on my many vacations to there.

The other big news from our country is still the Democratic presidential candidate race between Obama and Clinton. I signed a complaint today because my vote in Florida is not being counted which I feel is wrong. I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG yet my vote isn't being counted. I went and did my civic duty and voted for my choice of representative and now they act like my opinion and vote don't count! Talk about taxation without representation.

There is also a lot in the news about the rising cost of gasoline and oil. The price of crude oil has hit an all time high again. The experts are now forecasting gasoline prices of $5.00 a gallon within the next 18 months. Let's see how many people drive those huge gas guzzlers then. I know I heard my ex got rid of his big Dodge Ram truck because of fuel costs. According to the statements, sales of SUVs are down 67 percent overall. Guess we'll start seeing a lot more people using public transportation in Jacksonville. Unfortunately the bus system here is less than desirable with limited service on weekends and holidays, limited areas and there is no light rail or subway system. But if you are disabled and have your Medicare card you ride for $.25. If you are not disabled the fare is $1.00 but it wouldn't surprise me if fares are raised again soon due to increased fuel costs.

Gary ended up turning in for bed early tonight since he started his day early and didn't get a nap. I decided to go for a walk in the neighborhood since it was such a nice night. Cool but not cold with a nice breeze made for a great walk. Saturday night is not a good night for television so I am going to turn in early myself.

I hope you're having a great weekend so far! Wishing you health, hope and happiness.

Big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
