Catching Up With Dad
Welcome to another day in my life. I hope your work week has gotten off to a smooth start after most of us had a three day Memorial Day weekend.
I know many of us go back into work with a pile on our desks after an extra day off from work much less when we take one or more weeks of vacation. So I have empathy for those of you just trying to make it through the day and get things back into order. Even though I tried to keep kind of caught up over the weekend because we receive over 600 emails a day through the website plus the calls, it is very easy to get behind which I hate.
I did speak with my Dad for a couple of hours today for the first time in a couple of weeks. The last time I called he was gone and I got his answering machine. Dad still lives in the same house in Pensacola from when I was in high school. Guess Dad will always stay there. After all, Mom and he spent over fifty happy years together in the home and it does have the beautiful view of the bayou and the park.
Dad is doing well especially considering he is nearing 80. He has to watch his diabetes but otherwise is in good health given his age. I need to go visit him soon. My schedule has been so crazy the past couple of years and the time flew by before I realized how long it had been since I had visited. So hopefully I will be able to make a week or so sometime during this year to go see him and a few friends.
Like most of you, I spent the day playing catch up and running errands. I had six Dab the AIDS Bears to get off UPS today. They are headed for Canada, London, Ohio, Maryland and south Florida. Dab the AIDS Bear has just left Chicago and after a couple of days rest will be at Gay Days at Orlando this coming weekend. Then traveling to London for the Walk for Life (like our AIDS Walks), then back to the states and San Francisco for their AIDS Walk. So June is going to be a very busy month with gay prides, AIDS Walks and cycles and public appearances.
Tomorrow I will be guest co-hosting POZIAM Radio with Robert Breining. We will be interviewing Alina Oswalk. Alina is a freelance writer/photographer and author living in NYC area. Her works have appeared in publications like "A&U," "NY Blade" and "Out IN Jersey" and in NYC art galleries like Visual AIDS ("Postcards from the Edge") and Leslie-Lohman ("Strike A Pose"). Her own photography show is "Backbone," hosted by 32 Jones Gallery in Jersey City. Her new books include "Journeys Through Darkness," a biography of an award winning photographer left legally blind by CMV retinitis and "Backbone" a collection of images celebrating queer courage, from the show with the same name.
So tune in tomorrow 2pm EST to POZIAM Radio. You can go to www.poziam.com and click on the POZIAM Radio icon. There is a chat during the show where you can talk to the hosts, guests and other listeners. Or you can call in and make a comment or ask a question.
Heading to bed soon so I can be wide awake and alert for the show tomorrow. Need to get a chest and tricep workout in before the show and a shower.
Hope you have a great Wednesday and hump day.
Wishing you health, hope and happiness.
big bear hug,
