Great to have you join me again!
Happy Birthday DAD!
First I would like to give a shout out to my Dad and wish him a very Happy Birthday! I won't give away his age just let it suffice he's over 65. For those of you who haven't read my story under my board of directors profile, my Dad is my hero. He really taught me the values I have, how to take care of a family and the meaning of community. Dad served our country in the Navy during the Korean War and then as a fireman until his retirement to take care of Mom after she became ill. So Dad I hope you did something special for yourself and had a great day. You deserve it.
It's another beautiful day in Jacksonville, Florida with highs in the 80s and lows in the upper 50s. The sky is a beautiful light shade of blue with white fluffy cloud dancing across the sky. Just looking up at the sky brought back a strong memory from my childhood. My brothers and I had a swing set in our backyard which we spent countless hours playing. Since I was the youngest, I was the last to start school and would swing for hours waiting on my brothers to return home at the end of their days. I remember watching clouds on many a gorgeous Florida weather day and thinking of what the shapes of the clouds reminded me while swinging higher and higher trying to touch the sky.
Now I've taken you down memory lane. I guess I should say I've been feeling very nostalgic lately especially with Mother's Day coming up this next Sunday. As I have spoken before my mother passed away after a long painful illness in 2002. To this day I miss her terribly as we were always very close. In fact I had just spoken to her three days before her passing as I was leaving the States on a trip to Mexico for a week. I received the news of her passing when I returned to the Tampa port and rushed home for the services. Having said all this I hope you remember to thank your Mother this Mother's Day if she is still here. There will come the day when she won't be and you'll be wishing as I am for her return. So do something special for your Mom this Sunday whether it's a meal, flowers, candy, jewelry, a trip or something else BUT remember to call her also and tell her you love her. You'll be glad you did when the day comes she is no longer her to be able to say it to her.
I spent most of the morning working on this website and catching up on emails after the past several days. I also had a ton of messages on the project recorder which I was just able to retrieve after some problems with the device. For over a month it was telling me no messages while showing we received up to 40 calls a day. Well all the messages finally showed up this morning and I had to sift through over 100 messages. So if you're reading this and still waiting on a call please accept my apologies and I will be in contact shortly.
Today is the primaries in Indiana and North Carolina for the Democratic nominee for our Presidential race later this November. Hillary Clinton and Barac Obama are still head to head in both states. The "officials" are saying Senator Clinton needs to win both states in order to continue in the race but she and her camp have stated they will stay in until the Democratic Convention later this year. It will be interesting to see how the citizens of these two states vote when we get the returns. I don't know if I will be able to stay up until the returns but I will try.
Tonight was American Idol on the tube with the final four performing. David Archeletta was the only contestant who blew away both performances and gave the best show of the night. Jason Castro forgot the lyrics during his second song and the first song was very sub par so unfortunately for him he if the vote is based on talent should be going home next. They were running short at the end of the show and literally ran out of time at the ending. It will be interesting to see the outcome of the vote.
After American Idol, I gave my Dad a call to wish him Happy Birthday. It was great talking with him since I missed him on my last call. Dad recently had an injury while working in the yard and is still recovering. He thinks he might have caught a nerve in the damaged discs in his neck but is not positive. Luckily the pain has subsided and he is able to use his arm again without pain shooting to his waist. Dad has always been a hard worker and fix-it-all around the house but at his age needs to remember to take it easy. Unfortunately he's been to the funerals of two close friends recently which I can empathize with him. It is very hard to not only bury those close to you but in the back of your head wonder when your time is coming. Some call it survivor guilt while others call it reality. So for him being an older senior citizen and my being a long term survivor of HIV and AIDS, we have both buried more than our share of friends and loved ones and we definitely connect on that point. I feel for him because I know how depressing those thoughts can be so I will be calling him again before I leave on my next trip.
Going to head off to bed soon. It is almost 10pm here and I am ready to hit those soft cool sheets. And yes I recently had to start using the air conditioner so open window weather is over. I hope you had a great day also and look forward to you joining me in my life again soon.
Have a great day tomorrow! Wishing you health, hope and happiness.
big bear hug,
