Long Trip Home

Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Monday and I hope you had a safe and great weekend. Dab the AIDS Bear and I are on our long journey back home to south Florida.

After getting up early and having a little breakfast, we spent the last of our time enjoying talking with my Dad. Dad and I have had some great time together for the past eight days and it is very sad leaving. I wish we had more time together especially since he is getting up there in age.

As I have blogged before my Dad has always been supportive of me and my work. Not to some of you that might not seem like a big deal. But my Dad is a southern, military, religious man; the fact he accepts me as a gay man with HIV and AIDS means the world to me. I know it was not easy for him to realize he had a gay son. Much less realizing I was one of the first Americans with HIV and AIDS. But he has always been in my corner and let me know he loves me unconditionally.

All to soon, it was time for me to head to the airport. I could see the tears in Dad's eyes as we hugged and said our goodbyes which made me choke up. He asked when a quivering voice when I would be able to come visit again which I must admit made me tear up. I told him I would come back for another visit as soon as I can.

Then it was time to leave, gas up the rental car and head to the airport. Luckily, the Pensacola airport is a small one and getting through check in and security is nothing compared to most other airports. Then it was a short wait before boarding my first flight on Delta which landed in Atlanta.

I had a couple of hours to kill so I walked around the airport, grabbed some dinner at Pizza Hut in the terminal. Then it was finally time to board the plane for my last leg of the trip back to south Florida. The flight was packed and I was feeling slightly claustrophobic. Luckily, the flight is less than two hours.

Called George after my flight landed and then it was just a short trip back to the house. Sugar, Harley and Chipper were all over me as soon as I hit the door waiting for their hellos and petting. After calming them down, I had a meal so I could take my medications before bedtime.

Now doing this blog before I pass out for some much needed sleep. Will be processing all the pictures I took on the trip soon so stay tuned for upcoming slide shows and pictures.

Hope you have a great start to your week. Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.

big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
