ADAP Waiting Lists in America
Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Thursday and has been a very rough day. Yesterday was the expiration date for Ryan White funding but we were able to get an extension until the end of October.
So what does that mean? Where are we now in the process?
Will we break the standing 2004 record for ADAP (AIDS Drug Assistance Program) Waiting lists which eventually totaled 1,629 people?
Of these, there were deaths in several states. ADAP is a program under Ryan White funding which helps financially challenged American men, women and children afford life saving HIV medications and services.
The most up to date situation for ADAP Waiting Lists in the United States is:
Arkansas: 0 individuals (program capped on September 2, 2009)
Iowa: 7 individuals
Kentucky: 50 individuals
Montana: 24 individuals
Nebraska: 70 individuals
South Dakota: 1 individual (as of September)
Wyoming: 5 individuals
Dab the AIDS Bear Project will be monitoring the situation in the following states who are expecting to start waiting lists, or institute cost containment measure, which will restrict access prior to March 31, 2010:
I guess it boils down to the fact that Dab the AIDS Bear and I held over 5,000 American men, women and children as they lost their battles with AIDS before life saving HIV medications became available in 1996. Included in this number were 3 of my partners, my god child and way too many friends.
With the billions of dollars of aid and HIV medications going to other countries, not one American should have to die without access to life saving treatments and services. Please contact the Governors in each of the above states and let them know ADAP waiting lists are not acceptable in our country.
The lives of financially challenged Americans with HIV and AIDS depend on your help.
big bear hug,
Daddy Dab and Dab the AIDS Bear
