Memorial Rally in Washington DC

Welcome to another day in my life. Today is Friday and we have almost made it through another work week. I hope you have been having a safe and great week so far.

Last weekend, Dab the AIDS Bear was at a memorial rally for the young gay men who committed suicide due to bullying. It was so moving to be at the event. Everyone had glo sticks as a symbol of bringing light to all those who are suffering with bullying in the United States.

I know I have talked about bullying before in my blogs. But this is such an important issue to me since I too was bullied for being gay during my junior and senior years of high school. I know most of you have heard the old saying that sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. Well that just is not true. Words can be very destructive especially when you are a teenager and trying to figure out who you are. When you add being gay on top of these issues, it only compounds the problems and possible depression which is why GLBT youth are four times more likely to commit suicide.

You can see a slide show featuring pics from the event below:

There are also a tons of videos on YouTube now featuring the theme "It Gets Better". These videos are being done by everyone from celebrities to every day people. I hope all of these help prevent one more gay teen from committing suicide. I also hope we can find a way to prevent bullying in junior high and high schools.

What amazes me is how some of the parents come to the defense of the bullies. Instead of making the kids take responsibility for their actions, they want to make excuses for them. Talk about misguided and a lack of parenting.

Well Dab the AIDS Bear and I are going to run. We are heading out for another weekend of events. Stay tuned for more pics and slide shows soon.

Until we meet again; here's wishing you health, hope, happiness and just enough.

big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
