September 10, 2008

We have made it half way through another work week. Thanks for taking the time to check out another entry of my life.

I would like to thank those of you who sent me emails recently wishing me well. Some of you sent requests about how my doctor appointment went yesterday. Everything is about the same as last visit. But the good news is my lungs sounded a little better. I had gained two pounds which he was happy to see but is urging me to gain at least fifteen more before winter. Being a hard gainer, I will try my best but told him I could not promise the whole fifteen for him. Dr. Portalatin also said my speech sounded better and the muscle spasms seemed better. So I have to go back in another month so he can monitor me. Dr. P also wants Dr. Katella to fax him a copy of my new labs when I go to see Dr. K next week for a followup. So there you go friends. Hopefully, you will not have to worry about me going anywhere anytime soon. But thanks for the love It was another busy, early morning for me. I had to be up early to get the rental back to Enterprise. So after waking up at 7am to my blaring alarm, I had my shower and morning protein shake before taking Gary to work. Then I ran by Publix to pick up the last of the non-perishable goods for the next couple of months. I just can not seem to get out of the grocery store for less than $100 now and I consider myself a wise shopper. I use coupons and watch the sale adds for discounts and Buy-one-get-one (BOGO). Today's total was $137.56 for about a week's worth of food which is about twenty percent higher than last year. According to my receipt, that amount include sale and promotional discounts of $29.82 or a little over twenty percent. But more about higher prices later in this blog.

After Publix, I headed back home to unload our groceries and let the dogs outside. Then it was time to return the car downtown. I met another young woman today who was very personable and gave great service so I will definitely be using them again. She said a personal story with me that was very touching and I was glad she felt comfortable enough to share it with me. She and the other employees have said they will be collecting teddy bears and other gifts for our Teddy Bear Touchdown so I am very grateful for their help. Within no time, they had me checked out and dropped back off at the house.

As I was speaking earlier about increasing prices, I got my electric and water bill from JEA (Jacksonville Electric Authority) today. Now you have to remember we recently had a 20 percent rate increase due to the higher cost of fuel. But I was still shocked when I opened the bill and saw the amount. It is the highest utility bill I have had EVER! What is worse is the fact that according to my bill I used 20 percent less energy than a year ago but still had my highest bill ever. Since my place would be considered a small home, I would hate to see what families with large homes are paying. Talk about having to take out a loan to keep the power and water on but it gives me a better understanding of the struggles all Americans are going through right now.

Around noon today, the clouds started rolling in followed by a thunder, lightning and rain shortly thereafter. It was our first real thunderstorm in a couple of week with thousands of lightning strikes lighting up the sky. Speaking of storms, Hurricane Ike is now predicted to hit the Texas coastline in the next three days as a major hurricane. The experts are forecasting Ike to be a class 4 hurricane causing significant damage when it strikes Texas. Needless to say, the entire Texas coastline is being evacuated and the officials are counter-flowing the interstate starting tomorrow morning. As I have mentioned before if you ever hear a hurricane is a class 3 or above and headed your way, LEAVE immediately. Pack up your important papers, pictures, hard drive and medications and LEAVE. Even if your property survives, your city will probably be without power, water or security for weeks. So let's keep our fellow Americans going through this storm in our thoughts.

I ended up taking a nap this afternoon during the storm. There is something about the sound of rain that just makes me want to stretch out and catch a few zzzs. Being able to stretch out over my queen size bed doesn't hurt the process either. LOL. Sugar had found her way onto the bed during my nap was eventually woke me up wanting her petting. Since it was about time for Gary to get home from work, I went ahead and got out of bed so I could check email first. I have gotten behind on my emails again so let me apologize to my friends if you have not heard from me in a couple of days. I will get caught up as soon as possible.

Well that is another day in my life. How about yours? I hope you are having a great week and making the most of it.

Wishing you health, hope and happiness.

Big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
