Daddy Dab's Blog

Welcome to my weekend!

Thanks for stopping by to check out my blog. I hope you are having a safe and great weekend!

When I first got up this morning, I turned on the Weather Channel to see what was happening with Hurricane Ike. Ike had already come onshore near Houston around 3:30am EST. After watching the live coverage, I am afraid the coastline and surrounding cities near Houston are going to be destroyed or have wide spread damage. The clips shows major flooding and extensive structural damage. Having been through a hurricane that destroyed our family beach house and did major damage to the house in town, I can empathize with what the survivors will be going through for the next several months. Millions will be without water or power for months. They are even fearful of a high death count from some many people not evacuating which is the worst part. So remember to keep these folks in your thoughts and prayers.

I was glad I did not have any events or meetings scheduled for today since there was some great college football on television. The first game I watched was the Tennessee/UAB (University of Alabama Birmingham) game since Tennessee is one of my favorite teams. The Volunteers were in command of the game starting with the first quarter. They almost scored again right before halftime but the clock ran out during their last drive. At halftime, UAB had yet to score and the score was 14 - 0. The Volunteers continued to dominate throughout the third and fourth quarters with several great crowd pleasing plays. While the offense of UAB never could get their game on point. The Tennessee Volunteers ended up winning 35 - 3.

But then it was time for the big game of the day which was Michigan versus Notre Dame. Both Gary and I are big fans of the University of Michigan Wolverines. During commercials and slow periods, I would switch between the Georgia/South Carolina game and the Georgia Tech/Virginia Tech games. Georgia struggled at SEC rival South Carolina, clinging onto a 14-7 victory. The big play of the day was when South Carolina fumbled the ball from two yards out to turn the ball over and effectively let the Bulldogs escape. In the other game, Virginia Tech scores late to beat Georgia Tech. The Hokies also force three turnovers and hold on for a 20-17 victory. It just was not right of the programmers to put those three great football games on at the same time. Even most people with Tivo or recorders can only end up seeing two games. Notre Dame ending up winning the game 35 - 17. Their coach ended up tearing his acl (knee) because of a run in on the sidelines during the game. Then the coach had to stand on crutches after the second quarter.

This evening the big game was Ohio States/Southern Cal. Ohio State was ranked 5th going into this game and USC was ranked USC. The University of Southern California put on one of the performances of the decade when it crushed Ohio State 35-3 on the third week of the college football season. The top-ranked Trojans - playing in the so-called game of the century against fellow superpower and number 5 OSU - came back from an early 3-0 deficit to shut out their opponents for the rest of the game.

Well I hope I did not overdose those of you who are not football fanatics. But I have been a huge fan since i was a little kid.

Hope you are having a great weekend so far regardless of how you are enjoying it.

Wishing you health, hope and happiness.

Big bear hug,
