Hi everyone,

Today was massage therapy day. A wonderful friend of mine that is a massage therapist gives me the gift of massage once a month to help me with the side effects of HIV, the medications and of course getting older doesn't help... LOL

Vicki has been a massage therapist for many years. She has also been a long time advocate for the underdogs in society... women, the elderly, and the list goes on. But you can also read about her. She is on our board of directors in charge of alternative therapies.

I have personally found the benefits of massage, aromatherapy, yoga, meditation, and acupuncture in my question for better quality of life while dealing with my HIV infection. Most people think that they can just take a few pills to deal with it if they become HIV positive.

But that's just the start...

How are you going to pay for them? Without insurance, the average monthly HIV 'cocktail' costs around $2000 - $3000 depending on which combination your health care professional and you decide to try.

If you do have insurance, you will have monthly copays for medications, doctors visits a minimum of 4 times a year, lab tests and blood work a minimum of 4 times a year, not to mention the time you'll have to take off work and dealing with any opportunistic infections that you might catch.

You will also have to buy medications to help you deal with the side effects and affects of HIV and the medications you will take to keep yourself alive... more cost.

How will you deal with the side effects? (Most medications have side effects, trust me, HIV meds like cancer meds are toxic. Side effects range person to person from mild to severe from upset stomach to liver failure and kidney stones.

They keep you alive but they did a big job on your kidneys and liver. If you have to be on HIV treatment for a majority of your life, you will probably end up needing liver and kidney transplants.

When you add all this up for someone in their 20s, it will cost over $2million dollars for any person becoming HIV positive to make it to retirement age... AND THAT'S AT CURRENT PRICES WITHOUT INFLATION COST FIGURED IN FOR THE FUTURE...

Take care of each other.

Wishing all of your health, peace and happiness,

Big bear hug,

Daddy Dab
