You will be helping bring hope and joy to a child with HIV and AIDS or cancer with your generous donation. Your $25 donation sponsors one child at our yearly holiday events called the Teddy Bear Touchdown that we do in memory of my god-daughter, Candace, who lost her battle with AIDS at age 4 in 1989.
Every year our Teddy Bear Touchdowns occur during World AIDS Week and the rest of December where we take the donated teddy bears, toys, clothing and gift cards; wrap them up nicely and give them to the children during our December event. The day of the event each child is given a teddy bear and then another wrapped gift which they take home to open on their special holiday whether it is Christmas, Hannukah or Kwanzaa.
During the events, we also invite choirs and soloists to sing holiday music, a Santa Claus for those who observe Christmas, pictures with Dab the AIDS Bear, food and drawings for larger items and food baskets to ensure a great time for all our kids.
Almost all of our children with HIV and AIDS come from financially challenged families. Many are being raised by single parents, in the foster care system or living with relatives. Outside of the United States, most of the children live in orphanages.
Without your help, many of these great children would not receive gifts this holiday season. Each child will receive at least three gifts at the event including a teddy bear.
Thanks for your help in making a difference in the lives of children with HIV or cancer. It takes all of us working together to make a difference in the lives of these children and show them hope, love and compassion.
