Welcome to another month in my life. It is already September. Can you believe it? Here's wishing you a fantastic September!
We start off the month with Labor Day weekend which is also the last major holiday because children go back to school. It is also one of the hottest months here in Florida with the average temperature in the high 90s. Here in Florida though we also have a lot of humidity which can raiser the heat index easily over 110.
This is also the worst month for hurricanes and we are starting the month off with Hurricane Gustav in the Gulf of Mexico. It has just ravaged Cuba and is heading for the gulf coast. New Orleans and other low lying areas are under mandatory evacuation and my first few blog entries will be covering the landfall and effects. Let's remember to keep the affected fellow Americans in our thought and prayers.
This will also be another busy month working with Divided We Fail as we get closer to the presidential and local elections. We already have a few events on the schedule here locally in Jacksonville for the month and I am sure I will be recruited for a couple out of town. I really appreciate the opportunity Divided We Fail and AARP have given me to meet politicians across the country. I have also been fortunate to meet some wonderful journalists who are sympathetic to the HIV/AIDS community.
For you television junkies, the new broadcasting season will be starting in a few week so you can check up on all your favorite primetime series. We also have the start of the regular pro football season and the continuation of college football season so I am a happy camper.
I am also continuing to learn how to use my new camera so as health permits I will be sharing new shots. I have several locations I am looking forward to shooting. I also have been researching some pro tips to add some variety to my techniques. So keep tune for my new attempts.
As usual, I will also be talking about the latest developments in HIV/AIDS care and funding. But we need your help by contacting your political representatives when you read something that bothers you. One voice is one voice. But a thousand voices gets attention and promotes change. We will also be getting things in order to do this year's Teddy Bear Touchdown for children with HIV and AIDS which is my favorite event of the year.
I hope you have a safe and great September. Remember to keep your feet on the ground as you reach for the stars. Make some special memories in your life this month.
Wishing you health, hope and happiness.
Big bear hug,
